Jamaica is more than an Island – 20 Years of Software Made in Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe, Germany, 2021 – This year marks the 20th anniversary of aicas from Karlsruhe. The company looks back at an eventful history as a visionary software company. In a series of events throughout the anniversary year, aicas presents its forte of continuously progressing and reinventing itself amid global technological and digital developments. 

aicas‘ Beginnings 
On 3 May, 2001, James J. Hunt, Andy Walter, Fridtjof B. Siebert, and Götz M. Fluck, graduates of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), founded aicas with the vision of becoming a company that provides businesses with a flexible and efficient starting point for developing embedded realtime applications. Little did they know that 20 years onwards, aicas would have turned into a global high-tech company with offices and sales partners on four continents and its technology integrated into more than 21 million automotive and industry devices.

aicas’ Products 
aicas provides Java technology and analytical tools for realtime and embedded systems. The flagship product is JamaicaVM, a Java Virtual Machine with hard realtime garbage collection for time- and security-critical applications, such as for avionics, automotive, or industrial process management.

aicas‘ Anniversary Activities 
IoT and the cars of tomorrow – aicas’ 20th anniversary is all about progress, including exclusive glimpses behind the scenes and panels with high-profile international speakers sharing their expert knowledge about the future of automotive and IoT. “THE BEST IS YET TO COME” is the anniversary’s motto, the first activities are fixed, more is to come.

  • “Unlocking the Future of Driving with Data” and “Agile IoT – from Edge to Cloud” will kick off the anniversary year with two digital roundtables with speakers from VW, BMW, Bosch.IO, Telefónica, and many more IoT and automotive visionaries.

  • aicas asked – IT experts from around the world answered. To gain deeper insights into the significance of the friction points within the IoT markets, the software company issued a market study (“Living on the Edge? Current IoT market friction issues“) across different countries and market segments with more than 650 IoT professionals, in order to collect more data about the challenges customers are facing in the area of edge computing.
